6. Nunavut Joins Canada’s National Research and Education Network to Enhance Nunavummiut Access to Colleagues, Data, and Scientific Facilities

CANARIE announced today that Nunavut has joined Canada’s National Research and Education Network (NREN), initiating the process to connect Nunavut to the CANARIE backbone network that links provincial and territorial networks to each other and to the rest of the world. Nunavut will connect to the CANARIE network through its host organization, Nunavut Arctic College. The participation of Nunavut represents the ‟last spike” of inclusion for Canada’s NREN. This exciting development was celebrated on August 28 at the College through a signing ceremony. Nunavut makes Canada’s NREN whole, now comprising all thirteen provincial and territorial partners, and fulfills the Federal mandate to have a pan-Canadian research and education network.

7. Top Hat continues pursuit to take Traditional Publishers Digital with Bluedoor Acquisition

Toronto-based EdTech startup Top Hat has acquired another education publishing company, recently closing a deal to purchase United States-based Bluedoor. The terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

10. UBC's Master of Educational Technology program offers grads deep insights into online learning approaches

This spring, public postsecondary institutions across Canada delivered most of their schooling online.They had no alternative in the wake of the global outbreak of COVID-19.

But virtual learning is not a novel development—not by any means.

As far back in 2002, UBC's Faculty of Education pioneered the first fully online graduate program in Canada. The Master of Education Technology Program website states that it "educates professionals in the use and impact of digital learning technologies".
